When my youngest was 2 and my eldest was 3, I went back to full-time teaching. I had to be in school by 8am and their nursery didn't open until 7.45am. Every morning was a mad rush to get them dressed and out of the door, so I could drop them off before work. This meant I was often 'late' to school and missed the start of morning briefings - which I often got reprimanded for. It was stressful and I was riddled with 'mum guilt' - but I was just trying my best to do it all.
I decided enough was enough
In February of 2022, I left the classroom. It was a huge decision after 17 years of teaching but I knew I had to leave and give something else a go!
Even though I was scared, I was also excited at the prospect of starting a new chapter in my life - one where I could have more freedom, time & the flexibility I needed to bring up my own children.
I had heard that tutoring would be a good option, as it would utilise my skills and years of experience as a teacher and so, my new journey began!
Simply Science Tuition was born!
I now have the perfect work-life balance
I currently tutor online groups of secondary Science students for just 8 hours per week. I do the school run with my children in the mornings and I pick them up from the playground after school. I can take a day off when they are ill. I earn more than I did as a full-time teacher - and I still take all of my 13 weeks of teacher holidays!
